Stethoscopes, used in 5.5 billion auscultations annually in the U.S., are crucial in healthcare but pose a significant infection risk. Prioritizing stethoscope hygiene is as vital as hand hygiene and using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like masks and gowns to prevent HAIs.
Disposable stethoscopes, also known as “single-patient stethoscopes,” are recommended by the CDC for patients on contact precautions.
