St. Louis, MO – July 11, 2024 – ICP Medical, a division of TEAM Technologies, recently introduced a new privacy curtain for hospitals and other healthcare facilities that offers a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly choice for privacy curtains.
Available in the popular Teal Flower pattern, the Rapid Refresh curtain is constructed of a proprietary formulation which allows for enhanced biodegradation of the product when placed in a biologically active landfill. The formulation allows for a “biofilm” to be created on the surface of the product which is comprised of microbes that penetrate and expand the molecular structure, allowing for the microbes to consume the material, breaking down the chemical bonds of the plastic polymers at an accelerated rate. The plastics become a food source for the microbes, attracting more microbes to consume the material.
“ICP Medical’s Rapid Refresh® Biodegradable privacy curtains are designed with enhanced biodegradation properties, allowing over 50 percent of the material to be broken down after 424 days,” commented Brian Harris, TEAM Technologies Executive Vice President-Infection Control Products.
The Rapid Refresh® Disposable Curtain PANAL achieved 51.7% biodegradation when tested to ASTM D5511-12 Standard Test Method for determining Anaerobic biodegradation of plastics materials under accelerated landfill conditions for 424 days. The new biodegradable curtains seamlessly work with the Rapid Refresh Patented Quick Release System that allows curtains change overs in as little as 30 seconds. They also feature multiple tracking mechanisms on each label including the 6-month Time Strip, handwritten date label, and the curtain change app.
